Packaging & Recycling

If you didn’t already know our butter is wrapped in compostable packaging- this is one of the many reasons why we love this product and so many of you do too! We’ve listed below the reasons why we love our compostable packaging.

Environmental benefits of compostable packaging

  1. Diverts organic waste from landfill– Unlike traditional single-use food service items, which are unlikely to be recycled due to food contamination and end up in our general waste bins- compostable packaging allows a single collection of waste, which leads us to the added benefit – reducing the environmental impacts of organic materials in landfill.
  2. Reduces greenhouse gas emissions from organic waste– Organic waste in landfill is starved on oxygen and when broken down, it emits the greenhouse gas methane. Composting our food waste along with our compostable packaging has a massive positive impact and is a key strategy to combat climate change. Additionally, composting is a process that sequesters carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the soil.
  3. Composting for our environment– Compost is beneficial to soils, plant and animal life in many ways:
  • It enhances soil structure and quality which promotes plant growth and water retention.
  • Composting sequesters carbon and promotes an abundance of beneficial micro-organisms which makes our soil fertile and productive.

4. Captures more food waste– Using compostable packaging for serving food means that at the end of every use/meal, everything can go in a single bin. This allows you to capture more food waste and to reduce contamination in other recycling streams.

Our milk bottles ARE recyclable however at the moment our cheese packaging is not. We are currently in the process of seeking compostable packaging for our cheese, and we’re hoping this is something we will be able to convert to by the end of the year. Once we do, you’ll be the first to know!

Iodine Levels in Organic Milk

Switching from organic milk risks losing all these substantial health benefits.
